Sep 17 - 23, 2012

This week was about catching up on spring cleaning which is now fall cleaning.  Also blood work and a doctor appointment and a trip to Costco.

My fall cleaning involved just window & wall washing.  (boring!! but it takes so much time!)

On Wednesday, Tamara & I went to this movie:

We received the tickets courtesy of the Youth Singers of Calgary.  It was a fun night.

On Thursday, I mad a trip to Costco - mostly to buy bags of raw almonds - it's so inexpensive there!  Lately Myron has been teasing me about hiding some of the nuts etc. I had in the cupboard so I emailed him a picture of the stuff I bought just to tease hime back:

Friday was my doctor appointment and she said that she was pleased with my hemoglobin A1C results (6.7%) and felt I was managing well and was keeping me on the same dosage of Metformin.  I mentioned that my fasting isn't below 6 and she said that it was okay & manageable.  And my next blood test wouldn't have to be till April unless I was feeling ill.  Yay!

Sunday I took a Floral Design class at Mount Royal called Outdoor Fall Container and I made this:

The weather this week was beautiful.  Happy September!  =) Lisa

Sep 10 - 16th, 2012

Weekly wrap up.....

Monday
Flew back from Manitoba.  Tamara went to school.  Myron stayed home.  We both napped at various times (I was coming down with a cold).  The wind became really gusty in the afternoon and I noticed that a few of our apples were knocked out of the tree by the wind.  Since it was so fierce and afraid that it would knock all the apples out of the tree, I decided to pick the apples before they fell.

Our harvest:

It's not a huge amount but since we only had about 5 or 6 apples last year we have tripled our produce this year.  Yay to having such a warm summer.  Now to figure out what to do with the apples.

Received some pictures of us from the day of Grandma Dorothy's funeral:

Tuesday
Tamara had a post secondary information night.  I had my first night of Second Chants.

Wednesday
Decided to tackle one of the jobs I wanted to get done this fall - reorganizing the basement.  Partly to make room for an elliptical machine I hope to get and the other to make better use of space for when I scrapbook.

Tamara had Youth Singers this evening.

Thursday
I worked my last (and I hope forever) bingo this year.  Good news is that Tamara has a PD day tomorrow (already!) and I do not have to set an alarm for the morning.

Friday
Slept in.  Both Tamara & I had a hair appointment.  I told Leah, my hairdresser that I needed a bit of a pick me up - that she could 'go for it'  but I had to be able to put it into a pony tail still.  So it has been cut up to my shoulders - about 3 to 4 inches taken off the back and the bangs more straight across the forehead instead of side swept.  Love the results.  Hope I can achieve it on my own.

Went to join Myron at Inglewood for supper after his RATS golf tournament and saw this Mama deer and her babies on the road leading to the club.

Saturday
Didn't do much.  Tried to do too much with my hair didn't like it.  I always seem to style it the same old, same old and do not know how to do different and when I do - do not like the results.  Sigh.

Finished straightening the basement out.  :)

Sunday
Hung out at home.  Made a nice hamburger soup for lunch.  Went to talk to Tamara about university and her plans for after grade 12.

And that was our week.  =) Lisa

Sep 3 - 9th, 2012

Monday
Holiday Monday and time for us to head home. We all had brunch then Art & Marge drove us to the airport.

When we got to the airport we found out that our flight was delayed 4 hours.  Jer & Lisa happened to be headed into Wpg along with Jon & Andrea who were headed home so we decided to hang out and have supper with them.

Finally got onto the plane after a 6 hour delay, got home 11pm ish.

Tuesday
Sad, sad news.  We found out that Grandma Dorothy passed away last night.  This is a picture of her a few months ago:

It is the first day of school so despite the bad news, tried to carry on as per normal as we awaited news of the funeral and tried to decide travel plans.  Part of that is to take first day of school pictures.  Despite being sad Tamara was willing to have pictures taken.  I also took a shot of her walking down the street to catch the bus.  Did that last year so I thought, why not again? I also noticed that our garden grew while we were away.  We actually had a sunflower head and the start of a pumpkin.

Wednesday
While I was away last week, I found out that I won a blog contest I had been playing over at Scrapbooker's Paradise Ponderings.  So I went to pick up my prize today.  Thank you Scrapbooker's Paradise!

I am feeling very tired today and Tamara & I have youth singers tonight.  I hope I have enough energy to get through the night.

Thursday
Have travel plans all confirmed to go to the funeral.

Friday
Off to Winnipeg.

Saturday
Viewing was tonight.  Funeral information is in the link.  Dorothy Reimer

Sunday
Grandma Dorothy's funeral service and internment today.  It was a beautiful service. Emotional.

Headed back to Winnipeg in the evening so we could stay at the airport hotel & then catch our early morning flight without too much hassle.

Hug your loved ones, let them know you love them.  Lisa

Aug 27 - Sep 2, 2012

I have a lot of pictures posted in this post.

Monday
Worked on a bunch of PL pages, took pictures of them and posted them to the blog.

Myron was at a board meeting so I had to make supper only for Tamara & myself.  I tried to tempt him with this picture:

And I'm trying to figure out what kind of bird this is at our bird feeder:

I think it may be a woodpecker of some type.  I also took a picture of my one pumpkin plant that is growing wild:

Tuesday
Tamara & I went to her HS and registered her for grade 12.  Tamara has a full schedule this year and is adding to it as she needs religion - that she will be doing on-line and she's going to take choir - before & after school.

The 3 of us flew to Manitoba to enjoy the last week of summer with Myron's family.  Shot of inside Calgary's WJ terminal.

Found out that Myron's Grandma was back in the hospital after a short visit a month ago.

Arrived in Winnipeg and we planned to stay with Jon & Andrea (my brother-in-law & sister-in-law) and their kids overnight before heading out to Crystal City.  Went to Montana's for supper:

Wednesday
Walked to Assiniboine Park with my sister-in-law.  While at the park, Andrea showed us part 1 of her present that Jon & boys got her for her birthday. (Her birthday is Thursday (Aug 30) and it's her 40th.  She shares it with our father-in-law (Art) who's turned 69.)  She doesn't know what part 2 is yet, here's a picture of part 1:

And Tamara & Aaron posed on this chair that's just outside of the children's nature playground:

On the way to Crystal City we stopped to visit Grandma Dorothy at the Boundary Trail hospital.  Her stomach was quite distended and she was uncomfortable.  Found out that she has a blockage and they were going to try and do a colonoscopy the next day.

Thursday
Hung out at Jer & Lisa's farm (my other brother-in-law & sister-in-law).  Harvest is nearly done except for the canola and Art & Jer are working busily to get everything done.

Myron & I went to visit them in the field and rode in the combine a few rounds:

Found out that they were unable to give Myron's Grandma a colonoscopy & had scheduled her for surgery the next day as doctors feared if they didn't remove the mass that Grandma Dorothy wouldn't survive 3 days.

Friday
Grandma Dorothy went in for surgery and came through great.  The only thing the doctors could do was to clean out any waste and attach a colostomy.  They said the tumour was too large and had spread to outside of the intestines & was affecting the kidneys too.  That the best they could do was to keep her comfortable.  The hospital said that she could remain in the hospital for up to 3 months on palliative care.

Hung out at the farm, made bead bracelets/anklets:

Had supper and sat around a fire.  It was a BLUE moon tonight.

Saturday
Went to visit Grandma Dorothy in the hospital.  Saw this as we were leaving the hospital:

Then we headed out for supper at the Winkler Golf Course.  After supper Marge realized she left her purse at the hospital so we went back to get it.  Myron & I ran in and got to visit with Grandma Dorothy for a few more minutes.  She held my hand and had a nice firm grip.  She was smiling and looked comfortable.  It was nice to see.

Sunday
Rocket Day!  And birthday celebrations for my Art, Jer and Andrea.  Sunday was Jer's birthday.

We weren't sure if we were going to be able to set off the rockets because it was raining but about 3:30 - 4:00pm it stopped and the sun came out and we were able to set the rockets off.  One of the rockets needed rescuing from a tree.  And some of us played touch football.

Most of the family left before supper and the rest that remained had dinner then sat around the bonfire.  When it got dark enough, we enjoyed a few chinese lanterns and fireworks.

And Ron & Jill's (my cousin-in-laws) son, Carter gave us a reading of a Dr. Seuss story up on Jer & Lisa's deck wearing Jer's headlamp.  It was cute & funny and well delivered - all rolled into one!

It was a long but great day!

Hope you enjoyed all the pictures!  =) Lisa
